Badminton Ireland has today announced the appointment of Enda Lynch as Chief Executive Officer.

Lynch joins from Munster Rugby, where he spent 10 years in the roles of Head of Enterprise and Head of Commercial and Marketing.

Whilst there, he provided leadership in nurturing external relationships and building cohesive teams. He is experienced in sports governance and sports marketing, having worked previously in sponsorship with O2 when they sponsored Irish Rugby, and as a Board member of the Federation of Irish Sport and Breakthrough Cancer Research.

A long-time supporter and member of Sport for Business, Lynch has been a regular guest and speaker at events we have run over the past ten years.

“It is an honour and a pleasure to take on the role of leading Badminton Ireland as Chief Executive,” he said last night when the appointment was confirmed.

“I am passionate about sport and work tirelessly to improve the experience of and learnings from sport for everyone.”

“Badminton is a fantastic sport with a rich heritage and endless potential. As always, we will continue to work in a collaborative and engaged way with the badminton community to succeed in our shared ambitions.”

“Together we will achieve Badminton Ireland’s stated vision of becoming one of Ireland’s most popular sports and consistently winning medals.”

“Following a rigorous search process, I am thrilled to be able to welcome Enda as our new CEO,” added Badminton Ireland Chair Michael Watt.

“He brings not only great knowledge and understanding of what it takes to run a successful team, but he also has a real passion for sport.”

“Enda is a leader with vision, who puts people first and I know he will be a tremendous asset to Badminton Ireland. I am confident that under Enda’s leadership, we can grow badminton around our shared vision of badminton being played in every community together with medal success.”

Lynch will take up his appointment on Monday 6 March 2023. He replaces David McGill who stepped down last year, moving over to the world of esports with Riot Games.

Sport for Business Perspective:

This is a great appointment for a sport that has built strong schools and grassroots networks and in Nhat Nguyen has another potential future star to ignite interest across the wider sporting public.
