Fifty-Three Six, the Dublin-based Sports Marketing Agency, has appointed Gavin Coffey, as its Business Director.

Coffey, formerly Digital and Sponsorship Activation Director at Teneo and Head of Marketing at e-commerce company AvalonKing, steps into a newly created role this week as Fifty-Three Six expands its senior management team.

Most recently at AvalonKing, Coffey led a team of thirteen and was responsible for the success of the brand in terms of revenue, brand awareness, creative, share of voice, and all marketing communications.

His experience covers social media, SEO, influencer, email, advertising, PR, and sponsorship.

Previously, Coffey held a leadership role at consultancy giant Teneo, and a global role at creative experiences agency Because XM.

At the former, he was a Senior Director in the Digital Marketing and Sponsorship side of the agency. During his tenure there, Coffey oversaw the launch of Vodafone’s #TeamOfUs sponsorship activation with Irish Rugby.

Prior to this he spent four years at Dublin-based youth communications agency Thinkhouse working on the Heineken Ireland portfolio including sponsorship activations of UEFA Champions League, Heineken Cup, and Rugby World Cup in particular.

At 53Six, Coffey will lead relationships with key clients such as the FAI, Racing TV, Munster Rugby, FemFuelz, IRFU, BWG and World Rugby. This will range from client servicing, strategy, integrated acquisition planning and technology innovation to team management.

At a broader business level, Coffey will join the management team and will be responsible for leading planning, strategy development, client profitability, client organic revenue growth and ensuring the Digital Services team continues to deliver innovative campaigns of the highest calibre across established and new-to-market digital platforms.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Gavin to the team as Business Director to help us charge the next phase of our growth, as we eye more international expansion,” said Fifty-Three Six Co-Founder Tom Fox.

“Our purpose has always been to enable meaningful connections with fans and that remains true today. In a rapidly changing and fragmented sector, we believe we are well set up for the future, offering bespoke solutions across creative, strategy, production and media to meet our clients business objectives.”

“Gavin brings with him a wealth of international experience at a leadership level. We know he will bring huge strategic value to our partners but also to our business from an operations perspective.”

“I am delighted to join Tom, Marcus and the entire Fifty-Three Six team on this journey,” said Coffey.

“Having worked on both the brand and agency side over the last number of years, I understand the challenges and opportunities in the market and look forward to driving the business to the next level. Sports marketing has always been a passion and I am excited to join an agency with such sizable ambitions in this space. I believe that our spread of services across all marketing disciplines will allow us to produce work of real impact for our partners.”
