Locker, the Galway-based sports tech and media startup, is closing in on hitting a €1 million fundraising target in a pre-seed round of investment.
The company includes Ross O’Dwyer co-founder of Pundit Arena and One-Zero which took place in Dublin and Limerick last week, and former Setanta and eirSport director Brian Quinn, Sport for Business 30 Under 30 ‘graduate’ Andrew Pierse and Matt Steerman as co-founders. The previous investment round was led by Techstars and the WDC (Western Development Commission).
With just over two weeks to go the current round has raised €880,000 from a target of €1 million.
Locker is changing the way fans consume sports media. It has become our go-to source for aggregated sports content, and Sport for Business is proud to be on the system as one of the leading sources of sport business and sponsorship news in Ireland and further afield.
The problem Locker is looking to solve is that of millions of sports fans wasting time and getting frustrated by going to multiple apps, websites and social platforms to get their daily sports content.
Locker’s belief is that this means most content creators, media companies and bookmakers don’t have a true understanding of sports fans.
It is a problem that has been solved in other industries such as music and travel but it has not yet been solved in sport.
“We are excited at the response from partnering with Spark Crowdfunding to give Irish investors and sports fans the opportunity to invest in Locker,” said O’Dwyer.
“There is real power in crowdfunding and this is especially true when it comes to sport. Investors who are also sports fans can act as powerful advocates and this is why we are excited to bring on more new people to our story.”
In July 2020 Locker was the first Irish sports company to be accepted into the prestigious Techstars Sports Accelerator Programme in Indianapolis.
In 2021 Locker was a winner of the Google Adopt-a-Startup programme. Locker was also one of just 6 participants selected for the Stadia Ventures Accelerator in St.Louis 2022.
Today the Locker app aggregates content from more than 2,000 sports publishers across 18 sports from around the globe to create the world’s most powerful sports app. When fans join Locker, they are able to select the sports, leagues and teams that interest them most.
