Shelbourne Park was packed to the rafters on Saturday night as the Dublin venue staged this year’s BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Final.
Trainer Jennifer O’Donnell produced a repeat of last year’s win with The Other Kobe following in the paw prints of his full brother Born Warrior who won the race in 2022.
That made history as it was the first time that two dogs from the same litter had won the richest prize in the sport in Ireland.
Talking about family connections it was also a second win for the trainer, following in the footsteps this time of her Father, Mother and Aunt all of whom have been in the same position at the pinnacle of the sport.
The stadium was enveloped in a fog that descended soon after racing got underway but was never thick enough to cause a problem for the racing.
Tipperary Hurling Managers Liam Sheedy and Liam Cahill were both among the bumper crowd.
The total prize money has risen now to €300,000, thanks to the long term partnership and support of Sport for Business member Boylesports.
The sport has been through some tough years but this was a night of real celebration with a full stadium of core supporters and plenty of tourists drawn by the noise and the colour of a night of sporting action in a properly social environment.
