It was perhaps one of the greatest sporting TV ads of all time and was revived at the weekend with the news of the sad passing of Bobby Charlton.

In advance of the 2006 World Cup Finals, Carlsberg and their ad agency Saatchi and Saatchi decided to create the greatest pub team of all time, probably.

The ad took months to pull together and was filmed in East London with the cameras rolling and most of it unscripted, including the Stuart Pearce phone call and his second crunching tackle.

17 years on and many of the legends have now been lost but this is a nice reminder of the part they played in the football history story.

The team of legends was Peter Shilton, Stuart Pearce, Jack Charlton, Terry Butcher, Des Walker, Alan Ball, Peter Reid, Chris Waddle, Peter Beardsley, Bryan Robson, Bobby Charlton and the manager Bobby Robson.
