The GAA has confirmed there will be no increase in ticket prices for matches in the Allianz Leagues and they have introduced bundle prices which can give discounts for the most commited of fans.
Prices will remain unchanged at €20 for Adults and €15 for Senior Citizens/Students for Division 1 and 2 Allianz Football League games and 1A and 1B Allianz Hurling League games.
Tickets for AFL Divisions 3 and 4 will be priced at €12 and €10 and for AHL Divisions 2, 3 and 4, will be €10 and €8 respectively.
In addition, there is an early bird offer for the month of December which will see a €5 discount on Adult tickets for all opening round games across all divisions in both codes. This means that a senior citizen can go to Cork’s opening game against Meath in the Allianz League Division Two clash in January for only €3. That’s not bad value by anyone’s judgement.
There will be a change in juvenile pricing. Children’s Tickets (U16) will be €5 for all Division 1 and Division 2 Fixtures in football and Division 1A & 1B in hurling. These tickets can only be purchased alongside an adult ticket, or presumably in groups if you are taking an underage team to a big game.
This new arrangement has been introduced after consultation with counties and to assist with event control and health and safety protocols for fixtures that attract bigger attendances.
The GAA has also confirmed the introduction of a new category of Allianz League Bundle Tickets.
Fans can buy a seven match ticket for €100, €40 less than if buying single match tickets, or four match bundles for €65 as opposed to €80.
Six match bundles for Allianz Hurling Division 1A & 1B can be bought for €90 as opposed to €120, with three match bundles for €50 as opposed to €60.
In keeping with the practice of recent years, all tickets must be purchased in advance via county boards, gaa.ie or from participating Centra and SuperValu outlets.
SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE
The introduction of bundled ticket pricing allows for greater advance sales and less of a dependency on weather and other uncontrollable factors. That’s one win, as is the fact of locking the dates for games into peoples minds, an ever more important need in a busy sporting landscape. Finally, the pricing level is very competitive when people are fresh from the substantially higher levels being charged for other sporting and entertainment options.
WHAT’S UP NEXT?
The opening weekend of fixtures will be on that of January 26th and 27th with the games being the first to be played at inter-county level under the new football rules.
The Sport for Business Membership comprises nearly 300 organisations, including all the leading sports and sponsors, as well as commercial and state agencies.
