Irish Sailing has announced a new partnership with Covy Watersports, which will see the Irish watersports company become the Official Performance Wear Partner to the national high-performance sailing programme.

The agreement will provide athletes across Irish Sailing’s senior and development squads with performance kit, while also creating opportunities for athletes to collaborate on the design and development of technical apparel.

The partnership brings together Irish Sailing with the only Irish watersports brand designing and developing its wetsuits in Ireland, adding a home-grown dimension to the support structure around the country’s leading sailors.

welcomed the announcement, saying the partnership aligns strongly with the programme’s ambition to support Irish innovation within the sport.

“We are delighted to welcome Covy Watersports as a partner of Irish Sailing Performance,” said Irish Sailing Performance Director James O’Callaghan.

“It is particularly positive to collaborate with an Irish brand, and we are proud to support homegrown innovation within our sport.”

“Our sailors have thoroughly tested the kit and have been very impressed with its quality, fit and performance. We look forward to working closely with Covy Watersports and to a successful season ahead.”

Irish Sailing Performance has enjoyed sustained international success in recent seasons across Olympic classes, with multiple podium finishes at World Championships and Grand Slam events.

Most recently, Eve McMahon claimed gold in the ILCA 6 class at the Princess Sofia Regatta in Palma.

Covy Watersports founder Cillian Griffith said the partnership represents an important opportunity for the brand to support elite Irish athletes while further refining its technical product offering.

“As a locally founded brand, we are proud to support Irish athletes competing on the international stage,” he said.

“Our ambition is to develop high-performance sailing apparel that athletes are proud to wear, while working closely with them to refine our products and support them in maximising their potential.”

Founded by Griffith and inspired by his lifelong connection to the sea in Westport, Covy Watersports has emerged as a notable Irish entrant in the specialist watersports apparel market.
