The hub provides what has now grown to 5,000 verified Olympic athletes a central forum to share social media, connect and engage with fans.
As a subset of the social media world it provides up to date content and user generated content that fans enjoy and willing to engage with and share. Yesterday’s theme was dominated by halloween and pumpkin carving, proving that athletes are part of greater society as well as their own part of it.
The mobile app is a natural development and will likely lead to a larger flow of material as the countdown to the next Winter Olympics in Russia, the first European Olympics in Baku and the Rio 2016 Games pick up momentum.
The idea of creating an aggregated hub for content may also be something for irish sport to consider. The GAA has a vibrant community of players and a growing reach within county and club levels.
Aggregating that content and providing a central point for fans, media and fellow players would have reward in helping to build the personal brand of those who were most active and could potentially attract commercial support from brands looking to engage in innovative ways.

We are doing a similar job in bringing smart minds together on a major cycling project and one on sports analytics.
