This remarkable achievement is placed in context by the second biggest career tally being that of Richard Dunwoody at 1,699, and the fact that McCoy, a native of Moneyglass in County Antrim, has broken almost every bone in his body on the way to his incredible tally.

7 – The number of consecutive F1 Grand Prix victories secured now by four time world champion Sabastien Vettel after victory in the dramatic surroundings of Dubai. The German is quickly establishing a statistical claim to being the best of all time.

18 – The number of years bridged by Martyn Irvine in winning Gold for Ireland at the UCI World Track Cycling Championships. Declan Lonergan of Waterford was the last to stand atop the podium in Cuba in 1995 and Irvine claimed his title yesterday in the 30KM points race.

22 – Midleton’s success in the Cork Senior Hurling Championship on Sunday was the club’s first in 22 years. County star Conor Lehane scored 2-10 of his sides 2-15 total, with all bar two points coming from play.
