AIG Ireland is today launching the AIG ‘Show Your Skill’ competition as part of their support for the 20×20 movement.

The initiative will call on female athletes at all levels across all sporting codes to showcase their skill by entering a new online competition to be in with a chance to win a monthly €1,000 prize.

Participants are asked to upload a short video to AIG.ie/Skills performing a skill in their preferred sport.

The Show Your Skills competition will run for six months, starting in March and running through the summer months to August.

“There is so much sport and such wide diversity that we expect some real fun and real talent to emerge,” said John Gillick, AIG Sponsorship Manager at yesterday’s launch.

“It could emerge from any sport or activity and it is a real opportunity to get recognition and a decent cash prize to mark the talent that is out there.”

Each month, the most impressive skill, as judged by a panel including Rob Hartnett from Sport for Business, will be crowned the winner and awarded the €1,000 prize fund.

The Show Your Skill competition follows last year’s 20×20 Dublin jersey takeover, where AIG replaced their own logo with 20×20 across all four codes for a championship match.

In addition to sponsoring the 20×20 movement, AIG actively supports and promotes women in sport nationally through their #EffortIsEqual campaign.

AIG’s support of female sport goes beyond Gaelic Games through their sponsorship of the AIG Irish Ladies Golfing Union Cups & Shields, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, the AIG Irish Open Tennis Championships and AIG Forza Irish Badminton International.

Internationally, AIG also sponsors the New Zealand Black Ferns rugby team and in golf, the Women’s British Open. Today’s Daily Video on Sport for Business is a piece created with the All Blacks Rugby team from New Zealand in support of this campaign.

“AIG is both delighted and proud to play its part in the development of girls’ and women’s sport in Ireland by being a proud partner and sponsor of the 20×20 movement,” said AIG Ireland General Manager Declan O’Rourke.

“The Show Your Skills competition is the perfect platform for female athletes to show their talent, and it’s a great way to celebrate the various sports that we are proud to sponsor.”

“Increasing visibility of women’s sporting skill and talent is a key part of what 20×20 is all about – women’s sport isn’t missing the skill, it’s been missing the audience,” added Sharon O’Connor, 20×20 Campaign Manager.

“The Show Your Skills competition is an opportunity for women and girls across Ireland to showcase their skill and their love of sport.”

“In launching this competition and offering a monthly prize, AIG are creating a platform for women’s sporting skill to be seen – a platform that can inspire others to take up a sport for themselves or give them the confidence to create their own skills video.”

“This one of a kind competition is another tangible statement of AIG’s support for women in sport that amplifies their #EffortIsEqual message.”
