The GAA All Ireland Finals are moving back a week in 2023 and will take place on Sunday 23rd July for the Hurling and Sunday 30th July for the Football.
The Championship seasons will start on the 8th of April in Football and the 22nd of April in Hurling when Galway will face Wexford in the Leinster Championship.
Those outside of the dressing room generally bemoaned the giving up of August and the Sundays in September as part of the split season but there was almost universal acceptance of it being better on the player and management side with the club season taking over the second half of the year and greater recovery for players transitioning between the elite and the main body of games that are played.
The calls for an immediate return to later times became quieter as this emerged and while there may yet be further changes in future years they will be made on a longer period of trial than might have been the case.
The provincial finals will take place in Connacht and Munster football on the 7th of May, with Leinster and Ulster following the week after. The Leinster and Munster Finals in Hurling will take place on Sunday 11th June.
The Tailteann Cup Final has been scheduled for Saturday 7th July at Croke Park, and the Allianz League Finals will both be played on the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of April.
No dates have yet been confirmed for the TG4 All Ireland Ladies Football Final or the Glen Dimplex All Ireland Camogie Final.
The first two Saturdays in August have already been highlighted as potential replay dates for the Football and Hurling Finals but that leaves both Sundays free and it is most likely they will be the dates for the two Women’s Finals to take place.
Fans who have missed the buzz of an Inter-County match at the highest level will be able to sate their appetite when the Allianz Football League returns to Croke Park for Dublin Vs Kildare on Saturday 28th February for a 5 PM throw-in.
All-Ireland Champions Kerry will be on the road for their first return to full competitive action against Donegal the following day.
