Tipperary’s John McGrath and Kerry’s David Clifford have been named the PwC GAA/GPA Hurler and Footballer of the Month for July, while Dublin’s Kate Sullivan and Galway’s Aoife Donohue take the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month honours for July and August.

The awards, backed by PwC in partnership with the GAA and GPA, recognise excellence across hurling, football, and camogie at the highest level.

With the 2025 All-Ireland Championships now concluded, all four recipients were central figures in their counties’ championship triumphs.

For John McGrath, the award caps an unforgettable summer in which he helped fire Tipperary back to the summit of hurling for the first time since 2019.

His tally of 2-02 in the All-Ireland final against Cork, including a stunning second-half goal, swung the decider firmly in Tipp’s favour.

“This year has been incredibly special for us as a group,” McGrath said.

“To come through against Kilkenny in the semi-final and then to finish it off against Cork in the final is something I’ll never forget. Winning an award like this is nice, but it really belongs to the whole panel who put in such a huge shift all year.”

McGrath becomes the first Tipperary hurler to win the award since his brother Noel was recognised in 2019 following that previous All-Ireland victory.

Kerry captain David Clifford once again proved himself as the most reliable forward in Gaelic football.

His 1-09 haul against Tyrone in the semi-final was decisive, and his nine points in the final against Donegal secured Kerry’s first Sam Maguire since 2022.

Clifford ended the campaign with a record-breaking tally of 8-62.

“It’s always nice to be acknowledged, but really it’s about winning as a team,” Clifford reflected.

“We knew the work that was needed to get Sam back to Kerry, and thankfully, we managed it. The lads around me make my job that bit easier. I just try to finish the chances when they come.”

On the women’s side, Dublin forward Kate Sullivan’s scoring exploits proved crucial as Dublin reclaimed the Brendan Martin Cup.

She scored across all three knockout rounds, including four points in the final against Meath, where she also led much of the attacking play.

Galway’s Aoife Donohue, meanwhile, secured back-to-back PwC GPA Camogie Player of the Month awards.

Her opening score in the All-Ireland final set the tone for Galway’s revenge win over Cork, delivering a commanding midfield performance in what was her county’s first title since 2021.

Enda McDonagh, Managing Partner, PwC Ireland, praised the calibre of performances: “The quality of play on show reminded us once again why we love our national sports. Our four award recipients played pivotal roles in bringing All-Ireland glory to their counties, and should take immense pride in their achievements.”

GAA President Jarlath Burns highlighted the players’ standout contributions at the peak of the season: “David Clifford’s sensational form, John McGrath’s brilliance on hurling’s biggest stage, Aoife Donohue’s leadership, and Kate Sullivan’s scoring power all lit up this year’s championships. Congratulations to all four on well-earned recognition.”

GPA CEO Tom Parsons added: “To be voted for by your peers at the business end of the season makes these awards particularly special. The four winners delivered when it mattered most.”
