Over the weekend we became aware of an idea that may be a little shorter lived but which is no less important for that.
Quarantine FM is a radio station dedicated to helping people through these weeks of staying at home with features that help us to escape from the important but relentless barrage of hard news that the traditional media is doing such a good job of broadcasting.
It emerged from a conversation between two friends who were working as actresses when the shutdown brought the curtain down on their stage careers for now.
They wanted to do something more productive than scrolling through social media and within days they had a radio station up and running.
Kate McKeown and Anna-Rose Charleton are asking friends to spread the word and asking anyone who is interested to get in touch with ideas on content and more.
They publish their schedule daily on Instagram and broadcast between 9 am and 9 pm online right here.
It’s youthful and a bit rough and ready but in these times that somehow makes it even more accessible, particularly to a younger audience.
Tonight I have recorded a piece on the life and legacy of Mohammed Ali as a ‘Sports Bulletin with a Difference’.
It will be broadcast during Kate’s Passion Project show between 7 pm and 8-30 pm. If you don’t get to hear it live we will look at ways of bringing it to you here tomorrow morning.
If it goes down well we are looking at doing other elements helping to introduce sport into the mix of music, health, wellbeing, mindfulness, study tips and so much more that will make up the schedule.
If you want to help or contribute in any way to what the girls are doing, get in touch and we will make an introduction.
