We never really imagined that with a vaccine on the horizon, January 1st would be a watershed moment on the return to normal. Overnight news has broken that in terms of at least one major sporting event, January has been postponed until February.
The Australian Open is the first major tournament of the global tennis calendar and traditionally gets underway through the final two weeks of January.
This year it has been pushed back by three weeks and will now run from February 8th until 21st.
There will be a qualifying tournament held in Qatar in January and then players travelling to Melbourne will have to complete two weeks of quarantine before a number of warm-up tournaments commence the week before the Open.
Wimbledon was cancelled last year as a result of the Pandemic though the other three Majors were completed.
The French Open is scheduled to take place in May / June and Wimbledon in June / July 2021, when hopefully there will be a greater degree of safety and security for players, officials and fans.
