Aviva Mini Rugby 2014Aviva is offering 16 mini rugby clubs the opportunity to play at the Aviva Stadium on May 17th.

The Aviva National Mini Rugby Festival will take place at the national home of the sport for the first time this year and interest among clubs is already very high.

Sport for Children is a hot topic at present and is an area where big brands are seeking to become involved.  Just this week we have seen the launch of the Kellogg’s Cúl Camps in GAA, and earlier in the month Forest Feast came on board as sponsor of Athletics Ireland’s Little Athletics programme.

Sport for Business will be announcing details next week of the line up of speakers at The Business of Youth Sport Conference in Dublin on Thursday, June 12th.

Qualification to participate in the tournament is open to affiliated rugby clubs across Ireland who are fielding U10 mini rugby teams.

There are 16 places up for grabs in what will be a draw to participate in the day.

“Aviva Stadium is home to national and international sporting teams but it is our grassroots programmes like the Mini Rugby Festivals that are the heart and soul of the sponsorship for us,” said Mark Russell, Aviva Sponsorship Manager.

“These festivals are a fantastic opportunity to bring the future of Irish rugby onto the pitch at the Aviva to get their very first taste of what it might be like to play for their country.

“We are really excited to welcome the 16 teams to the home of Irish rugby for the very first time on what will be a day full of positive energy on May 17.”
“The national festival presents clubs with an opportunity to play rugby against teams from around the country and will be a fantastic day out for the whole club at the Aviva Stadium. This will be a day the mini players, their clubs and families will remember forever.”
“The Aviva National Mini Rugby Festival is a fantastic opportunity to bring together clubs from all four provinces and help to foster ties between clubs that would not otherwise meet,” said Hendrik Kruger, IRFU Age Grade Manager.

“The ethos of mini rugby is to foster and develop young players of all ability in the game of rugby in a safe, non-competitive and enjoyable environment through activities which ensure progressive skill development for all participants.”

The closing date for application to play is Friday, May 9th and more information can be found at www.irishrugby.ie/avivaminis
