AIG Insurance have been announced as Basketball Ireland’s new Club and Community Partner, which will also see AIG become title sponsor of the AIG All-Ireland Club Championships, the premier club tournament for U14 and U16 basketball. In addition, AIG will become the official insurance partner of Basketball Ireland.
With over 250 clubs reaching every corner of Ireland, the Club and Community partnership will see AIG nurture and support grassroots basketball in local communities.
The brand’s model for activating this is already in place from AIG’s previous 10-year partnership with a similar number of clubs in Dublin GAA circles.
Basketball has experienced huge growth in the last few years, with registered playing numbers up 21.5% alone last season.
The new partnership will see AIG and Basketball Ireland develop several community engagement initiatives to help promote participation at all levels, including the continued growth of women in sports, which AIG has been at the forefront of in global and Irish sports for the past ten years.
Regional qualification for the AIG All-Ireland Club Championships begins in September and concludes with four marquee weekends of finals action in March and April.
“It’s wonderful to have AIG Insurance on board as our Club and Community Partner,” said Seamas Donnelly, Chair of Basketball Ireland.
“They have a proven track record of community engagement in sport, and having them on board will help us continue to grow basketball. ”
“The AIG All-Ireland Club Championships are one of the highlights in the Irish domestic basketball calendar and are a wonderful showcase of the underage talent coming through at club level across Ireland.”
“We are delighted to partner with Basketball Ireland and to be the official Club and Community partner,” added John Gillick, Head of Consumer Marketing and Sponsorship for AIG Ireland.
“This will provide a great platform to help promote and showcase Irish basketball from the grassroots.”
“We believe there is great potential for further growth within basketball in Ireland. We look forward to developing out this important partnership and engaging with the clubs, members, fans and players as we start this journey.”
