Ireland players celebrate winning the Six Nations Championship 22/3/2015

On a weekend of glory for Irish sport it is a sign of the times that this morning’s print and broadcast media give as much credit to the Women’s second RBS 6 Nations triumph in three years as they do the Men’s title exploits.

A 73 point mauling of Scotland, broadcast live on RTÉ television yesterday may not have had the drama of Saturday’s see saw but in terms of power and skill is was a measure of how far Women’s sport has come in terms of recognition over the past two years.

Hockey Women 2015

The international Hockey team is muscling in on the credit as well having defeated Canada in the World League 2 tournament at UCD and moving a very significant step closer to qualification at last for the Olympics in Rio in a little over 15 months time.

Across the world and especially in Ireland Women’s sport has been establishing itself as the biggest area of growth and potential for companies looking to make an impact in the sporting consciousness.

Aon will be celebrating their foresight with Women’s Rugby this morning, while UDG Healthcare will be doing likewise around its support of Hockey.  Other major companies like Liberty Insurance, Continental Tyres and Ulster Bank will have seen huge gains from taking the chance to get involved in sport for women.

This was a weekend when all that effort has paid off in terms of the public awareness of sport for all.
