The 2020 Camogie All-Stars teams will be announced this Saturday, March 6th at the 17th annual Camogie All-Stars Awards sponsored by Liberty Insurance.
The awards will be streamed live on the Camogie Association Facebook and YouTube channels in what is the first virtual All-Stars event for the sport.
It is perhaps appropriate given that Camogie took very quickly to the streaming of Championship and Littlewoods League games over the past number of seasons, even ahead of the playing of games behind closed doors.
The numbers watching were steadily climbing through the Littlewoods backed initiative for the League with one game being shown in each round.
In last year’s Liberty Insurance All Ireland Championship the numbers rose again with games being shown and fans getting comfortable in the online environment.
The event will get underway at 7 pm and will be hosted by MC Killian Whelan.
The 15 Soaring Stars winners will be announced first followed by the respective Manager of the Year and the Camogie Association/WGPA Players’ Player of the Year from each grade before finishing with the announcement of the 15 All-Stars Award winners for 2020.
The surge in popularity of Camogie in Northern Ireland, driven by County teams dominating at this year’s Intermediate and Junior levels is reflected in the fact that all six nominees for the awards at those levels are from Ulster counties.
The shortlists for the sixth Camogie Association/WGPA Players’ Player of the Year Awards are as follows:
Senior Player of the Year Shortlist:
Denise Gaule (Kilkenny), Grace Walsh (Kilkenny), Shauna Healy (Galway)
Intermediate Player of the Year Shortlist:
