St Annes LouthThe Camogie Association and the Nutrition & Health Foundation will next week hold the  3rd annual Hurl Smart week in 50 clubs across the country.
The initiative is aimed at increasing activity levels of all ages, among women and men, girls and boys by providing a programme of events in a local camogie club.
Clubs will run a number of events with the aim of getting everyone active through camogie/hurling activities such as relay races, obstacle courses, wall ball challenges, and target practice challenges.  There will also be talks on the importance of nutrition.
“Hurl Smart Week aims to encourage people all over Ireland to get active, even just a little per day,” said Dr. Muireann Cullen, Manager of the Nutrition and Health Foundation.
“One in 10 children watch three or more hours of television on an average weekday and 66% watch for between one and three hours . If some of this TV time was substituted for 60 minutes of a moderate level of activity, we could help reverse the obesity epidemic and give our children a healthier, happier future”.
“The year on year expansion of the Hurl Smart Week since 2012 is wonderful,” added Aileen Lawlor, President of the Camogie Association.
“We are keen to support communities and families to be serious about nutrition and exercise in our daily lives.”
