With good news in short supply, it was heartening to hear last night that Cara is celebrating 1,000 organisations that have signed up to its Sport Inclusion Disability Charter.
The charter is simple but effective in making you think about people with disabilities and how your organisation caters to them, thinks and talks about them.
Sport for Business was among the early signatories to the charter and it has impacted on our way of highlighting disability sport and managing events, remember them in the real world.
One of the five areas that the Charter encourages thinking is to review the facilities and venues that you provide or use and we moved an event that had been planned for a particular venue because they did not match up to the standard I would expect were I to be in a wheelchair.
Words are easy but action is what makes a difference and the Charter has proven an invaluable checklist to be regularly reviewed and checked.
We are far from perfect and there are areas we would like to do better in terms of providing the right level of a facility to those from our friends in Vision Sport Ireland Deaf Sport, among other groups.
The Charter is helping as it is now with 1,000 other organisations.
Hopefully, yours is one of those. You can see the charter below and click here to find out more.
