Castrol has announced its return to Irish motorsport after 25 years, as the new title sponsor of Turn 1 at the Mondello Park International Race Circuit in county Kildare.

Under the sponsorship, the iconic Turn 1 at Mondello Park, will be renamed and branded as ‘Castrol Corner’.

The sponsorship is part of a new strategy to build and grow the Castrol brand in Ireland following the appointment of Certa, part of DCC plc, as Castrol’s sole Country Partner for Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Two years ago Certa became the title sponsor of the Ireland Women’s cricket team.

Castrol is a market leader in Ireland, where it has been operating for over 125 years. Certa is Ireland’s largest fuel distributor, operating 49 forecourts and 29 fuel depots.

“Castrol was one of the first brands to sponsor Mondello Park when it opened in 1968, a sponsorship that endured for over 30 years,” said Niamh Gaffney, Retail Sales and Marketing Manager with Certa.

“The new sponsorship was therefore a natural fit for Castrol. We are thrilled to return to Irish motorsports as part of our wider strategy to build and grow the Castrol brand in Ireland.”

“The iconic Turn 1 at Mondello Park is the most visible corner to spectators. Anyone who has been there knows that the first turn on the first lap is where all the race drama tends to happen. It will now be known as ‘Castrol Corner’, and we can’t wait to unveil the new look turn and Castrol branded trye walls to motor racing fans.”

“We are excited to welcome Castrol back to Mondello Park after 25 years and to present the new look ‘Castrol Corner’ to the 180,000 motor racing fans who visit us each year,” added Roddy Greene, Managing Director at Mondello Park.

“Castrol has a long-standing heritage with Irish motorsports, and we are excited to reconnect spectators with the brand.”

“The Castrol brand is instantly recognisable and is the one brand that racing fans remember most from the time they were kids. Everyone at the circuit is excited by Castrol’s return to Irish motorsports and by this new opportunity to showcase the Castrol brand and its products to a new generation of racing fans.”
