An attendance of up to 30,000 will be permitted at the All-Ireland Camogie Finals at Croke Park on September 12th.

Reaching that number will be an ask given that the attendance at the last pre-Covid finals day was 5,000 fewer.

The traditional joyous appeal of going as teams and groups of young players will also be impacted with pods of only two and four seats being available but the Camogie Association is reframing it as a special family day out and is encouraging its clubs to promote the ‘GoTogether’ message.

The knockout stages of the All-Ireland Camogie Championships 2021 get underway this weekend with a doubleheader from Pairc Uí Caoimh being broadcast live on RTÉ on Saturday evening.

Following the departure of Liberty Insurance as title sponsors, this year’s Championship is being given over to support the ISPCC Childline which handles 800 calls a day from children anxious over aspects of their life or in fear of the circumstances they are in.

Speaking yesterday to Sport for Business Camogie Association President Hilda Breslin made the point that “Camogie has received great support from our communities and from Government over the course of the last 18 months and when the opportunity arose we saw that as an important way for us to give something back.”

“Liberty were great partners over the best part of a decade but their priorities were changing and they gave us a good period of notice.”

“Given the pandemic though it has been an unusual year, to say the least. We have a great partner for our National Leagues in Littlewoods and with this year’s Championship running back to back with their involvement we did not want to rush.”

“Both Liberty and Littlewoods have been invaluable in expanding the reach and the appeal of our sport and often that is the most important part of a really good long-term partnership.”

“It should always be about more than a cheque and we are in discussion with a potential new partner which we hope to confirm and announce either before the end of this year or in advance of the new season early in 2022”

“Rather than just run this year’s Championship though with our own brand and message we reached out to Childline and there will be a lot of good to come from what we can do to tell each others stories over the coming weeks where Camogie will be in the spotlight.”

“With guaranteed coverage on RTÉ for the remaining seven games in the senior Championship and with a real interest in the Intermediate and Junior Championships around the country, it will be a special time, with an important message.”

Senior Camogie players from Cork, Waterford, Kilkenny, Galway, Tipperary, and Wexford all attended the launch as well as representatives from intermediate teams Meath, Antrim, Derry and Kerry as well as junior teams Cavan and Roscommon.

Tickets for the remaining rounds, all of which are test events and so capable of attracting larger crowds than in the Championships to date or indeed last year, are available from www.ticketmaster.ie

Ticket Prices are: –
Quarter-Finals €10 for adults and €5 for children
Semi-Finals €15 for Adults, €5 for Children
All Ireland Final €25 for Adults, on line in advance, €5 for children
