Sport Ireland has filled a key role in its senior management team with the appointment of Cliona O’Leary as the new Director of Corporate Affairs, Communication and Marketing.

Clíona has been involved in the business of sport for more than 25 years and is a respected leader in the field.

Previously Deputy Head of TV Sport at RTÉ, where she led teams to major sporting events worldwide, including the Olympic Games, World Cups and European Championships, she is a member of the Olympic Federation of Ireland’s Gender Equality Commission and Sport Ireland’s Coaching Committee.

She has a Degree in Media & Communications, and a Masters in Sports Management from UCD and in Business Practice from UCD.

She served as Chair of the European Broadcasting Union Women in Sport Expert Group for two years and has consistently featured in the Sport for Business AIG Women of Influence in Sport Annual List.

“I am delighted to take up the Director of Corporate Affairs, Communication and Marketing position with Sport Ireland,” said O’Leary.

“The team in Sport Ireland and across the NGBs and local sports partnerships are doing incredible work across participation, performance and high performance. I look forward to working with the Communications and Marketing team to amplify all messages and initiatives to ensure that as many people as possible can engage with and reach their potential in sport.”

She will officially take up her position in June 2023, and is a great addition to the Sport Ireland team.
