High Performance gridThe Irish Institute of Sport is hosting a gathering of high performance experts later this week as part of its ‘Pursuit of Excellence Programme’.

The conference will connect over 100 high performance support professionals from coaching, leadership, sports science and medicine.

It will take place in the Irish Management Institute and signals the first of four large-scale people development events to be delivered by the Institute of Sport in 2014.

“We are delighted to bring such a significant athlete support network to Ireland,” said Gary Keegan, Director of the Institute of Sport.  “This event is an opportunity to further enhance the development of our support provider community and drive towards excellence, through collaboration and knowledge sharing.”

The focus of the conference is ‘philosophy and culture driving excellence’.

Among those speaking are Chris Spice, Performance Director of GB Swimming; Teacher and innovation consultant Daithí Ó Murchú; Liam Harbison CEO of Paralympics Ireland; and Kevin Kilty, Chef de Mission for the Olympic Council of Ireland.

‘The Pursuit of Excellence Programme is a critical investment in the development and performance support of coaches, leaders and support professionals working with Ireland’s best athletes,” added  Phil Moore, Director of Performance Services at the Institute of Sport.

Among the subjects being considered are leadership and the building of support networks around key teams.
