Dublin Bike SponsorCoca Cola Zero is to be the new naming partner of the Dublin City Bike scheme run by Dublin City Council and advertising giant JC Decaux.

The new deal, for an initial three year period will see the bikes rebranded, an additional 56 stations built around the city and 950 new bikes brought into service.

The busiest day for the scheme was only last Thursday when over 11,000 journeys were taken.

By the end of June it is expected that one million journeys will have already been taken so far this year and the popularity of the scheme is clearly accelerating.

World Class

“Dublin city has had a world class public bike hire scheme since 2009,” said  Dublin’s Lord Mayor Christy Burke. “It has exceeded all expectations and over 7 million journeys have been taken so far.  Dublin City Council always envisaged that commercial partnership would play an important part in funding the scheme’s expansion and in Coca-Cola Ireland, dublinbikes has found a fitting partner.”

“Dublin is swiftly becoming a cycling city and the dublinbikes scheme has been one of the biggest drivers in making this possible,” added Minister for Public and Commuter Transport Alan Kelly. “

“We are very pleased to have Coca-Cola Zero on board,” said Joanne Grant, Managing Director JCDecaux Ireland.  “The Coca-Cola Company has a long track record in helping to promote and encourage activity in everyday life.”

Thank You

The deal ties in with the Coca Cola Thank You Fund whose stated mission this year is to promote people becoming more active.

“We are delighted to be partnering with such a successful scheme as dublinbikes enabling it to expand and making it possible for more Dubliners to enjoy a bike ride.” said Jon Woods, General Manager of Coca Cola in Britain and Ireland.

“This partnership builds on our support for the roll out of the regional bike schemes in Galway, Limerick and Cork to make cycling accessible to thousands of people across the country and help more people be more active.”

The three-year commercial partnership deal is worth almost €2m and was launched as part of National Bike Week.
