UCC Demons lifted their eighth InsureMyHouse.ie Pat Duffy National Cup and claimed their first title since 2014/15, following a 82-68 win over Irish Guide Dogs Ballincollig @MTU on Saturday at the National Basketball Arena on Saturday night.
Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell (pictured above) then won the club’s first InsureMyHouse.ie Paudie O’Connor National Cup title, defeating fellow-Cork side Catalyst Fr. Mathews 100-84.
The Men’s and Women’s double was inevitable for Cork with all four finalists hailing from the basketball stronghold by the Lee.
Both sides in the Women’s Final were chasing a first National Cup showing the strength that the club game has at the moment. UCC Demons were winning an eighth title overall but also a first since 2015.
The National Basketball Arena had hosted a whole week of finals with a continual stream of coaches in and out of the Tallaght venue coming from all over the country.
Intermediate titles were bound for Monaghan and Dublin with other wins secured by Limerick Celtics, Dublin Meteors, Waterford Wildcats and UCDS Marian.
Both of the Finals were televised live on TG4 with the remainder of the games all shown live on the sport’s own live streaming service.
