Costcutter is extending its partnership with Triathlon Ireland – a move that will provide continued support for kids’ and youth triathlon programmes.

Costcutter is the official supporter of all Triathlon Ireland youth activities, including the Youth Series – a nationwide competition that saw more than 2,000 teenagers compete across ten events in the summer of 2021.

Youth triathlon is the fastest growing area of Triathlon Ireland’s activities and athletes under the age of 18 make up almost one-fifth of all triathletes in Ireland.

With the first event of the year already completed, Triathlon Ireland recently recorded its busiest week in its history for membership uptake and is anticipating a standout year in 2022.

This year’s ‘Youth Series supported by Costcutter’ begins in Co. Dublin on June 2nd with the popular Skerries Triathlon and will continue right through the summer before concluding with a duathlon (run-bike-run) event hosted by Athy Triathlon Club on October 10th.

As well as supporting the Youth Series, Costcutter’s partnership is helping Triathlon Ireland roll out a range of activities such as the recently commenced Boost Youth Training Hubs. The hubs provide young athletes all over Ireland with regular training sessions facilitated by highly experienced Triathlon Ireland coaches and are overseen by the Triathlon Ireland Development Team and linked to the Emerging Talent Programme and High-Performance Unit.

Triathlon Ireland CEO Darren Coombes said Costcutter is a great fit for the Youth Series:

“We are excited to build on our strong partnership with Costcutter which delivered some exciting races for so many young triathletes last season,” said Triathlon Ireland CEO Darren Coomes.

“The 2022 Youth Series will build on the success of last year’s programme, delivering high-quality races for young triathletes in communities all across the country, which simply would not be possible without this key partnership.”

“The fantastic work of our volunteer clubs has seen a surge in interest in youth triathlon, supported by our Schools programmes, Boost Regional hubs and the Youth Series.”

“We eagerly anticipate a positive year of triathlon ahead for all of our members, but in particular our young members, for whom a return to swim, bike, run and fun is so important.”

Dr Holly Barry, Brand Strategist at the Barry Group, the parent company for Costcutter said she is looking forward to growing the partnership in year two.

“We are delighted to be partnering for the second year running with Triathlon Ireland. Sticking true to our roots of being ‘Proud to be Local’, this sponsorship has fantastic alignment with the Costcutter brand.”

“Additionally, our shared focus in cultivating community spirit, promoting healthy lifestyles and activity for the youth is what has made this so successful to date. We look forward to the year ahead working with such a fantastic organisation and our nation’s triathletes.”
