The Irish Cricket team are settling into their surroundings in Colombo ahead of the ICC 2020 Cricket World Cup which gets underway on September 19th when the team face Australia.
Preparations have taken place in a quieter environment because of the focus this summer on the Olympics and Paralympics but the team has been going about their business and is hopeful of causing another shock to match previous results against Pakistan and England.
The team has been joined in advance of the tournament by bowling coach Craig McDermott, one of the sports legends who until recently worked with his home team of Australia and will be able to pass on plenty of information.
“Ireland have got a well balanced side,” he said in an interview on the Cricket Ireland website. “If they play to their ability, which they have in the past in T20’s and qualified, they’ll give Australia and the West Indies a good run for their money.”
RSA, Volkswagen Ireland and Johnston Mooney and O’Brien are the main commercial sponsors of the team and we will catch up with how they are making the most of their association with the sport over the coming weeks.
