Later this morning Cricket Ireland will launch their new strategic plan to take the sport through to 2019 and to take it into the mainstream of Irish sport.
They will also be announcing a major new commercial partner taking over sponsorship of the Senior Men’s team.
The deal is believed to worth a significant six figure sum and is with a partner who is new to the world of sport in Ireland.
You will be able to follow the launch and the announcement live on www.cricketireland.ie from 1130 this morning.
The launch of the plan will be covered in full on Sport for Business tomorrow. Sport for Business founder Rob Hartnett will be Master of Ceremonies for the launch of the plan.
Aside from an address from CEO Warren Deutrom and an introduction to the new sponsors there will be a discussion with Ed Joyce, new Women’s Captain Laura Delaney and John Greens from the Sunday Independent about the appeal of cricket and the reach to push to the mainstream in Ireland.
Some of the points that will be made about the growth of cricket is that there are now over 50,000 players on the island of Ireland, that Ireland’s world ranking in the Men’s game is the second highest of any Irish professional sports team in the world and that Cricket Ireland’s social media following is now beyond 530,000, again second only to Irish Rugby in terms of following.
