AIB’s Toughest Summer series featured Clare GAA stalwart Padraig Mac Mathúna last week as the fourth episode in the mini-documentary activation.

He was asked to help out in the shop at Cusack Park in 1994 and is still in charge of it 26 years on, at the princely age of 86 years.

He is shown in the empty ground and in his garden surrounded by family celebrating his birthday when he hets a very special phone call.

The beauty of sport runs deeper than the games, the players and the wins.  It embraces the very essence of who we are and how we define ourselves across the generations.  This is a touching reminder of that.
