History was also made in Catalunya on Sunday when Lewis Hamilton’s win at the Spanish Grand Prix saw him pass Michael Schumacher’s record by stepping onto the podium for a record 156th time. He will surely pass the German’s record of wins later this year.

On Friday night, Ciara Mageean continued her run of post lockdown brilliance by breaking Sonia O’Sullivan’s 27 year record in the 1000 metres.

The result of the weekend that may have the greatest mark on the history of at least one of the teams took place in Lisbon as Barcelona crashed to an 8-2 defeat against Bayern Munich.

And finally, it was the weekend that should have seen the final of the 2020 All Ireland Hurling Championship. Let’s hope that we see this scene with a few more bodies in December…
