Local heroes come in all shapes and sizes and they are very much to the fore in how Dublin City Council is promoting its services across the sporting spectrum.
Today’s Daily Video is the first in a series produced by fellow Sport for Business members Future Proof Media and it focuses on Ger Carty and his life in the water.

Carty works as a Sports Development Officer with the Council. He oversees the programmes aimed at helping people to swim in three of the City’s pools in Crumlin, Sean McDermott Street and Coolock.

“We have adults, senior citizens, kids, anyone can learn to swim, age isn’t an issue,” said Carty. “You’d generally learn to swim to a basic level within six lessons. It could save your life. It could be the difference someday.”

Carty himself has swum the English Channel and has set Irish records at 800 and 1,500 metres. He only came back to swimming later in life though and is a great inspiration for how anything is possible, once you start to look.
