It doesn’t need to be directed by a Hollywood A-lister. It just needs to tell a story well and ideally tug a little at the heart strings. When Glanmire GAA club was flooded in 2012 the local community rallied around and helped to first clear, then rebuild a valuable local community.
The club has some way to go still in fundraising to cover the costs that could not be met through volunteering. As part of their efforts they produced this short video which has been entered as part of Etihad Airways’ Raise the Bar initiative, and which featured in the Irish Examiner’s excellent sports coverage online this week.
It really is a fine example of what clubs can do when the members rally together, and how the story can be preserved within a club so that those who play in 20 years will know they are standing on the shoulders of those who went before. Well done Glanmire.
