It was a day for volunteers yesterday including the launch of Energia’s new campaign ‘Think of the Possibilities’ with Ireland and Leinster Rugby star Hugo Keenan.
The campaign aims to highlight the importance of volunteers across Irish Rugby and the impact they can have on producing the stars of today.
Keenan had a spectacular campaign throughout the Guinness Six Nations playing in every minute of every game up until having to leave the field after a red card tackle from England’s Freddie Steward.
“as a fellow full-back, I felt for him,” he said yesterday. “It was really just one of those rugby incidents and a bit of an accident, really.”
“He was very apologetic and I wasn’t knocked out or anything but my number was down a little in the Head Injury Assessment so I had to come off.”
“That was hard, I’m really not great at watching matches from the sideline but the result was the important thing and we got that.”
It was one of those tough tackles to watch and one can only imagine what it was like for Keenan’s parents in the stands. He talks about them in his interview for the Energia campaign which is our Daily Video for today and can be viewed above.
Keenan is back in with Leinster already though not yet ready to return to play and is looking forward to the weeks ahead with the province, and to the Rugby World Cup in the Autumn.
“I’m ready to focus now on the URC and the Heineken Champions Cup. I don’t have either of them to my name and that’s what’s important for now.”
