Messi Galaxy Note 3The Fifa World Cup Draw takes place this Friday and much of the marketing around next year’s sporting blockbuster has already begun in earnest. Yesterday we brought you the Nike advertisement based around the magic of Brazil. Today we show the latest campaign from Samsung which boldly sets out not only to show off mobile phones but to save the planet.

The campaign began last month and has so far attracted over 10 million views to a series of video clips based on the premise of building a team of soccer superstars to save the planet in an intergalactic football match against aliens who are threatening the planet.

Franz Beckenbauer is the manager and today’s daily video shows the selection of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi to be the team captain. Samsung is clearly investing millions in the campaign which is surrounded by an integrated digital and social campaign promoting Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 and other tech products.

It should be noted that just like Nike, Samsung are not an official partner of World Cup 2014. They are though piling the pressure on Sony who are a top line sponsors in this category.
