Olympian and broadcaster David Gillick, along with his three children, is backing humanitarian aid agency GOAL’s Jersey Day 2025, which takes place on Friday, October 10th.

Now in its 37th year, Jersey Day encourages schools, workplaces, and communities across Ireland to wear their favourite sports jerseys in return for a donation to GOAL. The initiative is proudly supported this year by Premier Sports as the title sponsor.

To build awareness, two new Jersey Day TV ads are airing this week across Premier Sports’ European coverage, running during the Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers ties this evening, the United Rugby Championship this weekend, and the high-profile Manchester United v Sunderland clash on Saturday. The ads will also be shared across GOAL’s social channels from Friday.

In 2024, over 40,000 participants from 120 businesses and 420 schools helped raise €240,000. This year, GOAL has set an ambitious target of €250,000, with funds supporting vulnerable communities in Gaza, Sudan, and other crisis-affected regions across the charity’s 14 programme countries.

“Irish people have a deep connection to sport, and jerseys are a big part of that tradition and culture,” said Gillick.

“There’s real pride in the jersey you wear. It shows that you are part of something bigger – a club, a national team, or a whole community. Wearing your favourite jersey isn’t just about sport, it’s about connection and belonging.”
