We may know the ins and outs of Leicester City’s Premiership Title victory but closer to home we have a race that has gone down even closer to the wire and will be resolved tonight in the final game of the season.
Wexford Youths and Shelbourne meet tonight in the final game of the Continental Tyres Women’s National League regular season at Tolka Park. A draw or a win will secure the title for Wexford. A win for Shelbourne will force a play off game to determine who will be Champions.
The game deserves a sell out crowd but we are still some way away from that level of support. It will come though. Over 30,000 will be at Wembley this weekend for the Women’s FA Cup Final in England and as major sponsors like Continental get ever more involved we will look back in ten years time on this as being the start of a major transformation in the parity of esteem that all who play elite sport can expect to achieve.
We like this video produced by Continental to mark the climax of the season. Good luck to both sides tonight, and to referee Paula Brady who might be excused for leaving work at Ulster Bank a little early this evening. We might see you at Tolka Park for the 7pm kick off…
