Dublin GAA has confirmed the appointment of Marcus Ó Buachalla as its new Chief Commercial Officer, succeeding Tomás Quinn, who stepped down earlier this year, to make his own cross-sport switch to become CEO at Shelbourne FC after more than a decade shaping the county’s commercial success.
Ó Buachalla joins from Leinster Rugby, where he has served as Head of Communications and Media since 2013, overseeing one of the most successful and engaged fan bases in Irish professional sport. His move marks both a return to Gaelic games and a continuation of his work in storytelling, brand development, and community engagement at the elite level. Before joining Leinster Rugby, he had been a consultant with Teneo.
A member of Kilmacud Crokes, Ó Buachalla is deeply embedded in Dublin GAA life and is also a familiar voice to Irish-speaking sports fans through his broadcast commentary work with TG4, where he has covered both football and hurling in recent years.
In his new role, he will lead the commercial and marketing strategy for Dublin GAA, working closely with existing partners while developing new opportunities to enhance the county’s profile and revenue base.
“Marcus brings a wealth of experience from his time at Leinster Rugby, and an understanding of what makes Dublin GAA such a powerful sporting and community organisation. His appointment comes at an important time for our continued growth, both on and off the field,” said Ken O’Sullivan, Chairperson of Dublin GAA.
“It’s a real honour to join Dublin GAA in this capacity. I’ve been fortunate to work in Irish sport for many years, and to now be able to contribute to the organisation that means so much to me and to so many across the county is incredibly special. I look forward to building on the great work done by Tomás Quinn and the team, and to helping tell the Dublin GAA story in new and exciting ways,” said Ó Buachalla.
He will officially take up the role in December 2025, bringing with him more than a decade of experience at the heart of Irish sport — and a clear understanding of how tradition and innovation can work hand in hand.
