Arriving back to Skibbereen after becoming Ireland’s tenth Olympic Gold Medal winner has been a different experience than it was after Rio’s Silver for Paul O’Donovan.
We caught up with him to talk about how it felt, what his immediate and long term plans were and what were his stand out memories from Tokyo 2020.
On returning home in Covid times
“It’s been good to be home. I really like being at home and everyone is in a good mood.”
Has the quieter celebration suited?
“I think it’s been a bit easier without the total madness and chaos of the last time. It’s been nice to spend a bit more time with family and those who are closest to you.”
What’s next?
“We are going to Henley next week and then the Irish National Championships where we’ll all be racing against each other back with our individual clubs.”
What was it like getting back to the village after your gold medal?
“It was brilliant. We were just walking up and we could see them all out. Brilliant that they all came down and it was lovely to see.”
