It is great to see eir back activating its partnership with the GAA since switching from the Football to the Hurling All Ireland Championship.

Their new eir Poc Tapa challenge is inspired by the age-old “Poc Fada” competitions and has been reimagined to reflect the speed of the modern hurling championship. eir ambassador and inter-county star hurler, Declan Hannon (pictured above), was on hand in Croke Park to officially launch the competition.

The Poc Tapa challenge is designed to inspire GAA clubs across Ireland to demonstrate that the fastest wins in both hurling and the provision of superfast broadband. The fastest team in the country will win €5,000 for their club, and a chance to play in Croke Park on All-Ireland Semi-Final day. There are also many other additional prizes on offer for participating clubs.

The competition is based on the quickest team of up to six people to pass a sliotar around the four corners of a pitch. The fastest team to get the ball back to base will win the competition.

This competition can be attempted by every GAA club in Ireland, and is designed for all ages, in any venue from local clubs to the national stadium.

To enter the Poc Tapa competition, participating teams need to capture a video clip of their fastest time captured from the centre of a pitch, with the stopwatch used held in frame at the beginning and end of the clip. The video must be uploaded to either Twitter (@eir) or Instagram (@eir.ireland) using the hashtags #PocTapa and #FastestWins.

In November 2022, eir was unveiled as a new official sponsor of the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship for the next five years. The partnership cements one that goes back to 2011. eir is currently working to improve connectivity for individuals, homes, and businesses across the country by investing €250 million per year in its network to improve speed, coverage, and resilience, with 5G available in 547 towns and cities and its Gigabit fibre broadband network passing over 1 million homes and businesses across Ireland .

“We are extremely excited to announce the Poc Tapa challenge with Limerick star Declan Hannon today,” said Susan Brady, Managing Director of Consumer and Small Business at eir.
