Electric Ireland has launched the 2023 Electric Ireland Camogie All-Ireland Minor Championships, teaming up with Cork Camogie legend and 10-time All-Star, Gemma O’Connor, to support the announcement.

Since launching their new partnership with the Camogie Association earlier this year, it has been a busy few months within Camogie with the recent conclusion of a jam-packed Electric Ireland Camogie Third level Championships calendar.

Later today, Electric Ireland will announce the Electric Ireland Camogie Third Level Rising Stars 2023 Team of the Year. This announcement can be followed on Electric Ireland’s social channels.

This year, to celebrate its first year of sponsorship of the All-Ireland Minor Championships, Electric Ireland will spotlight three players each week from the Championship action across their social channels, with the Player of the Week being revealed weekly on Electric Ireland’s Twitter page (@electricireland).

Electric Ireland’s Minor Moments podcast will also return for a second season, featuring a fantastic line-up of guests from the worlds of Camogie, Hurling and Football, as they reflect on the defining moments from their Minor playing days and how it shaped them, both on and off the pitch.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Electric Ireland over the last few months throughout the Electric Ireland Camogie Third Level Championships and we are excited to see what their support will add to this year’s Electric Ireland Camogie All-Ireland Minor Championships.” said Hilda Breslin, President of the Camogie Association

“Since 2012, we have seen Electric Ireland’s unwavering support for the development of young Minor players and we are delighted that our young Camogie players will also now benefit from this support.”

“At Electric Ireland, we recognise and celebrate the enormous impact that playing Minor has on a young person’s life and we look forward to celebrating these defining moments for the players throughout the Electric Ireland Camogie All-Ireland Minor Championships,” added Sarah Sharkey, Brand, PR and Sponsorship Manager at Electric Ireland.

“It’s all about visibility really,” said Gemme O’Connor speaking to media at the launch.

“Look at the Irish women’s soccer team at the moment, they have got a massive amount of coverage and you can see that has a knock-on effect on girls wanting to be part of that and on girls playing all sports.”

“We are starting to see a rise in female participation in sports. People want to be a part of that and camogie is no different.

“Camogie still has a long long way to go. It needs to be pushed in the media, it needs to be on TV, the papers, radio. It needs to be showcased more often so young girls aspire to doing that themselves. It’s going in the right direction but we need more of it, and this new partnership can help.”

Electric Ireland has sponsored the Minor Hurling and Men’s Football Championships since 2012 and last year extended this support until 2027.
