764081Electric Ireland has announced it is to sponsor the U18 Women’s Eurohockey Championships which will take place at UCD, Dublin from 29th July to 4th August 2013.
The tournament, running as part of The Gathering, will feature the cream of European Women’s Hockey including Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, England, Russia, France and Wales as well as an Ireland team who will be keen to impress on home turf.
The action will take place at the National Hockey Arena on the Belfield campus over six days with matches starting at 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm in the pool stages from Monday to Thursday.
“Electric Ireland is delighted to support the Irish Hockey Association in bringing the cream of European U18 Women’s Hockey to this prestigious competition in UCD,” said Sean Walsh of Electric Ireland. “We really hope that Irish sports fans will get behind the Irish team and show Europe the fantastic enthusiasm we have for sport in Ireland.”
“Electric Ireland and formerly ESB have been brilliant supporters of Women’s and Girls Irish Hockey over the last 6 years,” added Irish Hockey Association Marketing Manager Karl O’Shaughnessy.
“They originally would have got involved purely on the Senior side of the Women’s Game but over the years have expanded the sponsorship to Girl’s Hockey and also title sponsorship of our Annual Awards Night.”
“The title sponsorship of this great event is another vote of confidence.”
Irish U18 players Jessica McGirr & Hannah Grieve (pictured above) were on hand to launch the event in Dublin along with senior International Nikki Symmons who last Saturday became Ireland’s first 200th capped player.
“I know how special it is to pull on the green shirt for Ireland,” said Symmons, “and these girls will be bursting with pride when they get to do this in front of our home support at UCD in a major tournament. There is a great opportunity for the Irish public to see the future stars of Irish Hockey in action up close.”
As well as competitively priced Adult season tickets, special early bird season tickets offers are in place for 3rd Level students and OAP’s at a cost of €20 while 2nd level students can get their season ticket for €15. These will all be available up until Friday 19th July 2013. Primary School children will be able to attend every game of the tournament including the Final, free of charge
