The action will be played on the PS4 and will use NBA 2k20. Irish players will be able to take control of the NBA’s top stars and battle it out to win prizes from Basketball Ireland.
It is the latest in a run of esports initiatives being brought to life across Irish and world sport.
On Friday night last, there was a charity game between Bohemians and Shamrock rovers which we will be reporting on later this week.
Elsewhere today we have news of a major FIFA20 Fundraising All Ireland between representatives of each county drawn from the Gaelic Players Association.
Socially distant and yet competitive and engaging in our temporary new world, esports is proving to be a real boon during the circumstances in which we find ourselves.
For the Basketball Championship players are registering online and there will be an open draw with a single-game advance from each round.
The games will be based on current NBA teams with the player drawn first getting the first pick. Each game will be four quarters of three minutes and the action will get underway at 7 pm on Friday night, May 1st.
Winners will screenshot their own results and the games will also be shared with Basketball Ireland who will take on the role of commissioner for the tournament so that everything is fair.
The Injury and Exhaustion settings will be on unlike in the F1 simulations that have been broadcast on Sky Sports of late.
It promises to be good fun.
