RTÉ Score Biggest Result of the Year so Far

Ireland SwedenAn average of 1.08m viewers watched Monday’s Group E opener between the Republic of Ireland and Sweden on RTÉ2.

71.1% of those watching television at the time were tuned into the game. The audience peaked at 1.35m viewers in the last minute of the game and RTÉ2’s entire UEFA EURO 2016 coverage yesterday reached a cumulative total of 1.93m people.

Last night’s game was the highest-rating television programme of the year to date.

Additionally there were 131,950 live streams for the game on RTÉ Player, which includes 650 streams of the Irish Language Commentary version.

This is the strongest single live event on RTÉ Player so far this year.

Striking a Blow for the Older Guy

Gregor KiralyHungary goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly helped pull off one of the shocks of the tournament yesterday when keeping a clean sheet against Austria in his country’s 2-0 win.

At 40 years and 174 days old he struck a blow for those who play beyond the average age of an elite sports star and he has also brought his penchant for baggy grey track bottoms to public acclaim.  He thinks they are his lucky charm and while they may be more Penney’s than Under Armour there is no doubt that they worked their trick yesterday…
