FAI HeatonsThe has signed a new three year agreement with Heatons / Sportsworld , making them the official sports retail partner of the FAI and its international teams, as well as title sponsor of the FAI’s Football in the Community Programme.

The Football in the Community Programme sponsorship includes the FAI’s pioneering Intercultural football programme, which started in 2008 and was the first of its kind to be implemented by a national sports governing body in Ireland.

The Heatons / Sportsworld sponsorship will help to support three individual programmes within this – the My Club after school programme, the Club Open Day programme and the Adult Futsal programme.

The support of the Football in the Community Programme will also assist the FAI in delivering programmes through Football for All. The FAI has been a leading advocate for disability sport over the last decade and the Heatons / Sportsworld sponsorship will provide support for blind football, amputee football, powerchair football, the Football for All club programme and Football for All Coach education.

Heatons has 52 stores nationwide and Sportsworld is present alongside 26 of those locations. They stock existing Umbro Ireland replica gear and the deal will doubtless lead to an expansion of the ranges carries and given prominence within the stores.

Elverys is the largest sports retailer in Ireland and has a presence at the Aviva Stadium and it remains to be seen whether Sportsworld will look to have a presence there as well on match days such as Friday evenings World Cup Qualifier against Sweden.

“Heatons / Sportsworld has a presence in communities all over Ireland and we know first-hand how much work football clubs do locally to enhance community spirit and pride,” said Heatons / Sportsworld managing director John O’Neill.

“We are very happy to become an official partner of the FAI and its international teams as well as sponsor of the Football in the Community Programme. The FAI is doing very good work in the Intercultural and Football for All areas and through our support, we aim to help all of the coaches and players involved to grow and develop.”
