Ferris citing rejected
A Six Nations disciplinary hearing in London has rejected the citing of Stephen Ferris after Sunday’s Championship game against Wales and further suggested the awarding of the penalty against him was incorrect.
The decision was vital in that it allowed Wales to score the winning penalty in the dying seconds of the game.
Ferris’ reputation is cleared then and Ireland coach Declan Kidney will look to use the sense of injustice as a positive motivating force against France in Paris on Sunday night.
Harry for England
It was a bizarre day yesterday for English soccer off the pitch.  Fabio Capello resigned as the national team manager after a very public disagreement with the FA over the demotion of John Terry as national team captain.  Half an hour before that, his likely successor Harry Redknapp, was cleared of all charges of tax evasion at Southwark Crown Court.
Social media was clearly on top of the news as it broke and Wayne Rooney admitted that while he was ‘gutted’ at the loss of Capello, he felt the next manager should be English and that Harry Redknapp was the man for him.
Bookmakers clearly felt the same, suspending betting in the market on who would be the next England manager.
The FA will hold a press conference at noon on Thursday at which it is likely Stuart Pearce will be named as caretaker manager for the friendly against the Netherlands on February 29th.  England have qualified for the UEFA Euro 2012 finals in June and could face the Republic of Ireland at the quarter final stage.
Derrytresk banned from Ulster and All Ireland competition for five years
Tyrone GAA club Derrytresk have been banned from provincial and All Ireland club competitions for five years following the fight in their AIB All Ireland Junior Club Championship game against Dromid Pearses.
The side will contest the tournament final at Croke Park this weekend and did receive some comfort when the ban on influential forward Joe McKee was overturned.
The community nature of club sport means that Derrytresk will survive and perhaps even thrive as a club but they will not be allowed to defend their national title should they beat Galway club Clonbur on Sunday.
