Kelly GallagherIt may have been won under the flag of Team GB but there was at least an Irish flavour to the Winter Paralympic Gold medal won earlier this week by 28 year old Kelly Gallagher from Bangor, County Down.

Gallagher, together with her guide Charlotte Evans took gold in the visually impaired Super G race at Sochi. Having set her time, they waited as the last five competitors came down the Russian mountain but were unable to beat her.

She receives support from Sport NI, the Northern Ireland Institute for Sport at University of Ulster, Jordanstown and Disability Sport NI.

Gallagher is the first athlete from Northern Ireland to compete at the Winter Paralympic Games and the first Gold medallist for team GB.

She recorded a great short film for CNN’s Human to Hero collection which can be seen via this link.
