Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup Winner Galopin Des Champs brought his trophy home to Leighlinbridge yesterday with Willie and Jaqui Mulline, Audrey and Greg Turley, and a team of local supporters.
It has become a well-trodden path for Irish winners of the most prestigious prize in National Hunt Racing.
Having won the Cheltenham Gold Cup only three times in 27 years between 1987 and 2013, Irish-trained runners have won it eight times in the last ten, including each of the last five.
It is the third time that the Count Carlow village has welcomed home a winner after Al Boum Photo won back-to-back Gold Cups in 2019 and 2020.
