The GAA weekend belonged to Galway, dethroning Dublin and sparking dreams of a first All-Ireland Football title since 2001.
They are still two games away, and with an injury list that would have most hospitals on an emergency alert, but beating Dublin in the Championship has been rare of late, and it can only inspire those thoughts of glory.
It is the first year in 15 that Dublin will not be present in the Semi-Finals, but this was a deserved victory on a day and in a game that could have gone either way but which landed for the Tribesmen.
Dublin will return, and there is plenty in the team to scale the heights once more, but they are now just one of the potential winners in a given year, as is the way of competitive sport.
Kerry, Armagh, and Donegal will harbour their own dreams and, as expected, made it through their Quarterfinals at Croke Park, but it was Galway that turned heads at the weekend.
Their Semi-Final will be against Donegal, back in Croke Park in two weeks. If that hurdle is navigated, the All Ireland Final will be the Sunday before the start of Galway Race Week, a time when everyone with the merest hint of a tie to the West wants to be ‘back home’.
We have a little skin in the game as well, with a special Sport for Business Breakfast taking place on Eyre Square on the Thursday morning before the big game.
Galway Races, Supermacs, TG4 and Iris Productions are already lined up to join us as speakers on what will be a morning of great engagement across the sporting spectrum of the West.
Sport for Business will host a special gathering at An Púcán on Eyre Square in Galway on Thursday, July 25th. This is one of many events planned for the remainder of 2024.
