There is no question that this has been a week to remember for Galway. Last Sunday’s epic semi-final win in the All Ireland Hurling Championship, and the County Camogie team doubling up with their own All Ireland Final place was followed on Wednesday night by the unveiling of a new set of sponsors for Galway WFC as they get ready for the second season of the FAI Continental Tyres Women’s National League.
The teams may yet attract a different size of audience to home games but Galway is a sporting county and there is more that unites the two than just the colour of their shirts.
Supermacs
The new sponsor of the club is Lough Rea Hotel and Spa, with Papa Johns Pizza featuring on the back of the jersey. Both brands belong to Pat McDonagh, head of Supermacs who have been 25 year sponsors of Galway hurling team, and who expanded to embrace Football and all under age levels of gaelic games across the county in 2013.
“We are really thrilled to announce Lough Rea Hotel & Spa as our official club sponsors,” said Club Chairman Stephen Moran.
“The resources and support they are putting behind their sponsorship will ensure that the club will grow and thrive for the coming years.”
Standards
“The hotel name will adorn our jerseys and leisurewear and it will be our duty to ensure our performances live up to the high standards maintained by the hotel. We also welcome on board a global brand Papa John’s Pizza whose name will appear on our jersey and shorts.”
Speaking at the launch in the hotel’s Roof Top Garden Pat McDonagh said “we are proud to be able to sponsor Galway WFC and support women in sport.”
“We look forward to having the Galway Team as regular visitors to the hotel along with other teams from across the country. We wish the team the very best of luck in the season ahead.”
Aside from it’s GAA involvement Supermacs has also been a sponsor of the Volvo Ocean Race when it came to Galway in 2012, and in many other community sporting events.
Galway WFC’s first game of the season will be in the FAI Continental Tyres Women’s Senior Cup away to Dublin side St Catherine’s on Sunday 30th August with their first home game the following weekend against Shelbourne who merged with Raheny United over the summer.
